Chiropractic is...
Chiropractic is an alternative care system that promotes natural self-healing by optimizing the function of the nervous system and movement biomechanics through adjustments of the spine and joints.
As the central route from brain to body is through the spinal cord and spinal nerves, improving their communication is paramount to enable your body to heal itself. Segmental misalignments in the spine or abnormal spinal curvatures have the potential to cause reduced neural communication, stiffness in the spine, or altered local and regional biomechanics. The ways this can manifest itself include neural symptoms such as changes in sensation, tingling or weakness, or mechanical symptoms such as pain, improper muscle firing and compensation patterns.
Chiropractic adjustments therefore, help to mobilize these joints, re-aligning them to optimize neural connections and joint biomechanics. This creates the right environment to encourage healing, remove abnormal stresses in the body and reduce likelihood of (re-)injury. As an added benefit, it has been shown that adjustments also release endorphins (our happy hormones), which in themselves create a natural type of pain-relief.

The premise of natural healing in Chiropractic care can also involve a variety of other conservative methodologies, including physiotherapy modalities (ultrasound, shockwave, interferential current, etc.), flexion distraction techniques, soft tissue mobilization, rehabilitative exercises, nutritional counselling, dry-needling, and others. Depending on the Chiropractor, you may receive varying degrees of these additional methods.
